About the Event
York Cemetery Trust is delighted to be hosting a colloquium on James Pigott Pritchett of York: Architect [1789 - 1868] at York Cemetery on 21st October 2023. Â
From Pritchett's arrival in York in 1813 to join Charles Watson, the partnership made significant architectural contributions to Late Georgian Yorkshire: including domestic projects for the Fitzwilliams at Wentworth Woodhouse and large civic commissions such as the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Â Subsequently, Pritchett & Sons went on to establish a reputation as leading church and cemetery designers whose works include the Neoclassical York Cemetery Chapel and gatehouse. Once described as ' a whig-radical dissenter' Pritchett, a committed Congregationalist who established Lendal Chapel, was an outspoken supporter of numerous charitable and philanthropic causes.
Day tickets: £10 are available via York Cemetery Office weekdays, between 9-4 on 01904 610578, or emailing admin@yorkcemetery.org.uk. Additionally, we are offering a finger buffet lunch at £10 per person (bookable/payable in advance with a day ticket):  Please note there is a maximum capacity of 45 for the buffet, so this is offered on a first come first served basis and must be booked with a day ticket.   Further information/details of the event from Dr Victoria Hopgood email vahopgood@gmail.com.
